Labour Hire Authority statement on the Commissioner’s resignation
4 June 2026
Labour Hire Licensing Commissioner, Steve Dargavel, has announced he will step down after leading Victoria’s Labour Hire Authority (LHA) since it was established in 2019.
Commissioner Dargavel will conclude his service in September 2026, following a period of leave from 1 August. A recruitment process to appoint a new Commissioner will be coordinated by Industrial Relations Victoria.
Comments from Labour Hire Licensing Commissioner, Steve Dargavel:
“Leading the Labour Hire Authority since its establishment in 2019 has been a privilege, and a responsibility I’ve taken very seriously.”
“Important progress has been made to improve the integrity and transparency of Victoria’s labour hire industry, which would not have been possible without our robust licensing scheme.”
“Our highly capable staff, with the support of government and agency partners, have taken hundreds of actions and protected many thousands of workers from egregious exploitation.”
“With recently strengthened powers and a dedicated team, the Authority is well placed for the significant work ahead, and I wish the organisation continued success.”
